The female will plaster the entrance with a mixture of mud, tree bark, wooddust, food debris and even her own fethers. Only a small crack, big enugh to let the male passing food trough will remain the the contact to the outer world. For millions of years hornbills have been a model for good parenting.

After an hours drive we arrive to the elephant camp. Now the real adventure starts.

Elephant trekking:

Walking along and in a stream you’ll feel the sensation of sitting on the back of the largest land animal in the world. Aided by more than forty commands, which the elephant remembers easily, the mahout or elephant driver can make the animal do even the most difficult tasks. The ride’s halfway point is a beautiful waterfall where we can swim and relax.

Transport will continue and soon we will have a tremendous bird’s eye view over the distinctive character of the landscapes in the Khao Sok area. Stop at the cave where we luckily should se some monkeys. Lunch at the river bank.

Canoeing: At the beautiful Sok River, we launch the canoes. The river twists and turns between the tall limestone casts and the evergreen rainforest. It’s not a condition that you have tried to paddle before. In every canoe we’ll have a local guide who’ll point out wildlife you would have difficulties discovering your self.

Day 1 - Leave for the area around Khao Sok National Park head quarters in the morning from Phuket, Krabi or Suratthani. Visit the Elephant camp and do Nature exploring by canoeing down the Sok River. In the evening, enjoy sounds from the rainforest. Visit the jungle cave temple. Go hiking in the National Park by your self or by hiring a local guide. The trails inside the National Park are well marked and you will pass several waterfalls on the way. From January to February it’s possible to find the Worlds biggest flower the Rafflesia blossom. Continue to Chiew Lan Lake about 70 km away and depart from the Rajjabrapa pier. On the way to the raft houses we will sail amidst spectacular rock formations and make a detour for Gulin of Khao Sok - a scenic place on the lake. Check in on simple bamboo rafthouse. Paddle a canoe to explore the lake and look for wildlife. Take a bamboo raft to a newly discovered dripstone cave. Value of the stay in the wilderness, get up with the sun. Take a canoe or arrange with the boat driver to go for a safari to scan the banks. A lot of travelers have Khao Sok National Park on there ”Must do” itinerary. On the 1-day tour from Phuket and Krabi, the 3 hour drive in each direction the same day is often regarded as an anticlimax. On the full day tour, you will get an impression, but far of all the adventures. It’s after dark, when the sounds of the rainforest will be present that the real jungle atmosphere occurs.

Good to bring on overnight stay: Flash light, mosquito repellent, sun protection, hat or cap, swim suits, medicine if use, toilet paper on hikes, sarong, rain poncho, camera, comfortable walking shoes or sandals.

Gibbons are apes in the family Hylobatidae The family is divided into four genera based on their diploid chromosome number: Hylobates (44), Hoolock (38), Nomascus (52), and Symphalangus (50).[2][3] The extinct Bunopithecus sericus is a gibbon or gibbon-like ape which, until recently, was thought to be closely related to the Hoolock gibbons.[2] Gibbons occur in tropical and subtropical rainforests from northeast India to Indonesia and north to southern China, including the islands of Sumatra, Borneo and Java.Also called the lesser apes, gibbons differ from great apes (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and humans) in being smaller and pair-bonded, in not making nests, and in certain anatomical details in which they superficially more closely resemble monkeys than great apes do. Gibbons are masters of their primary mode of locomotion, brachiation, swinging from branch to branch for distances of up to 15 m (50 ft), at speeds as high as 56 km/h (35 mph). Log Wildkingdom Tours - Great Hornbill. Hornbill's is a family member of a large Old World tropical bird spices which have enormous curved bills and often a bony cask on the head. Thirteen of the worlds 54 species occur in Thailand. As fruit eaters they are critical to seed dispersal, with out them the forest would not be as luxuriant odr diverse. Great hornbills mate for life and, like all hornbills, nest in hollw tree cavities. The female will plaster the entrance with a mixture of mud, tree bark, wooddust, food debris and even her own fethers. Only a small crack, big enugh to let the male passing food trough will remain the the contact to the outer world. For millions of years hornbills have been a model for good parenting.
