Koh Racha Yai (Raya) is located right South of Phuket and you will find it a paradise with tropical beaches, coral reef and clear waters for snorkeling. The Island is about 4 km2 and the people living here mainly get there income from fishing. Besides this income also come earnings from mango, jackfruit, tamarind, cashew and coconut plantations. The Island has an eye-catching big stock of monitors. These creatures feed on carrion and are quite harmless to humans.

The evenings are not affected by the lights from the cities. This fact do make the nights more beautiful than else where with billions of stars on the sky. You will find a 5 star resort as well as a handful of minor bungalow resorts. This means that the island is equipped to greet everyone, how wants to enjoy and relax in peaceful surroundings, well away from the hectic life in the holiday towns along the West coast of Phuket.
Racha Water Monitor

To the south of Phuket lie the twin islands of Koh Racha Yai (big) and Koh Racha Noi (small) which offer significantly better diving than do Phuket's western beaches. Almost all diving operators offer one day trips to both of the islands (although not on the same day) and some offer a two day live-aboard trip every week Racha Yai's best diving is off its east coast which makes it especially attractive during Phuket's off-season in the summer. Although visibility varies, it can be as good as 25 meters or more. A typical dive is a gentle drift along a sloping rocky face that is sprinkled with hard coral forests of many, many varieties. Especially prominent are stag horn corals of blue and tan. Many times there are large schools of false barracudas hovering over the reef, while on the reef itself you'll see octopus and cuttlefish in addition to the more common tropical species. Divers of all levels of experience and snorkelers can visit Racha Yai with no usual hazards as the diving is easy and gentle. Water depths range between 3-30 meters. Racha Noi is popular Lying about 20kms south of Phuket, the Racha Islands comprise two islands, Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi. To confuse matters they are also known as Koh Raya Yai and Koh Raya Noi (Yai means “big” in Thai and as you may have already guessed, noi means “little” The islands possess crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. They are very popular with divers and snorkellers, with challenging dive sites for advanced divers as well as plenty for beginners and snorkellers. Racha Yai:Closest to Phuket is Racha Yai. The island is mostly inhabited by muslim farmers and fishermen. This island is also where all the accommodation is located. The main beach, on the island's northwest coast, is Ao Tawan Tok (also known as Ao Bungalow), which is located in a u-shaped bay. The sand here is snow white and has the consistency of talcum powder. There are a few bungalows and restaurants located here, although the area is pretty undeveloped. There is only electricity for a few hours in the evening. Like many islands in the area, Racha Yai is popular with day-trippers from Phuket and Ao Bungalow can get a little busy in the afternoons. At night, the island is pretty quiet with only a few restaurants and bars. The lack of bright lights means that the night sky is light up with stars, great for stargazing on the beach. Racha Noi:
A little to the south of Racha Yai is its smaller twin, Racha Noi. This island is uninhabited and has more rocks than beaches. There is a small bay on its west coast that is a favourite spot for fishing, but apart from diving there is little else to do here. Accommodation There are a few bungalow and resort operations on Racha Yai, as well as a more upmarket resort called The Racha. Activities The main activities here are scuba diving and snorkelling. Racha Yai's east coast has a bay that is fine for diving even during the rainy-season. Visibility can be as as good as 30m Racha Noi is more suited to experienced divers as the sites are at greater depths. There are some sites where larger marine creatures, manta rays in particular, are regularly spotted See more information on scuba diving
Travelling to the Racha Islands Day-trips are organised by tour operators and can be arranged at a travel agent. If you want to stay overnight, boats can be chartered from Rawai or Chalong Pier. The journey time is about 2 hours in a long-tail boat, though speedboats may make the journey in 1 hour Koh Racha Islands Thailand is only 23 kilometres distant from Koh Phuket Island, with its beautiful scenery, natural surroundings, crystal clear waters and remote beaches it is one of the most beautiful Thailand islands in the vicinity of well-known Koh Phuket Island. On Koh Raya Island you can go swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, or just lie in the sun on Siam Bay, Batok Bay or Konkare Bay and enjoy the peace. Raya Island Thailand offers nature walks through coconut plantations, where you can see water buffaloes grazing in their natural surroundings. See how the local people Koh
